A tidy bedroom is essential for a child's well-being, as it creates a calm and structured environment that promotes better focus and rest. Teaching organization habits from a young age instills a sense of responsibility and helps children develop lifelong skills for maintaining order and reducing stress. Starting early sets the foundation for a more organized and balanced life.

Step #1: Assess the Space
Clean the space and remove as much as possible. It will be nice working in a clean room. Decide if you need new furniture or if you can utilize what you already have. Maybe you have a cube storage system and all you need is some bins for it. Maybe you have drawers and some expandable dividers will do the trick. Whatever it is, have a rough plan in your head before you purchase any organizing products.
Step #2: Sort the Room
Start with the toys and categorize them. Have your child help with the purging process. Have piles for keep, donate, trash. Once everything is sorted decide what product would be best to store them. Does your child like to neatly put things away? Then a very detailed system could work. Are they tossers/quick cleaner uppers? Then a bin large enough to fit said toys will work perfectly. Same goes for clothing. Get rid of the too small and old worn out items. If your child can handle folding, do that. If they need their clothes just placed in a drawer or bin, do that. Keep it simple and it will be easy and stress free when handling the laundry for everyone involved. *Prp: keep a bin in the closet designated for items that become too small.
Step #3: Create the Routine
Kids can thrive on routines...or at least you can keep your sanity if there is something in place. With labeled organized bins, you can make clean up your room time super easy. Kids may need a little help at first, but in no time they will be able to pull out the toys they want to play with and put them away when done. For clothing, keep a hamper in your kids room/closet that they can easily toss the days dirty clothes in. Have them pick out an outfit for the next day, complete with underwear, socks and shoes.
Step #4: Set the Example
As parents, do your best to follow a simple process like this around the whole home. Create a nightly routine of picking up each room and putting the "kitchen to bed" :) Make sure the sink and counters are clear of dirty dishes and the dishwasher is set to run. My favorite thing to wrap up the evening is to wipe down the kitchen counters and start an essential oil diffuser. At that point everyone knows it's time to wind down. For the kids, a simple clean up in their bedroom will help calm the mind before hopping in to bed.
When kids can see their belongings are being taken care of they will treasure and respect them more. Do they really need to go buy a new toy or can they go into one of their organized labeled bins and find a hidden treasure?! Remember, if you or your child starts to feel overwhelmed in their space, it is probably time to do another purge session. At our house this happens about every 6 months, it's a great time to donate or sell unwanted items taking up precious space.
